Chakoro Shibui (渋い) - Ceramic Chakoro accessory
Working with renown local ceramicist Kim Haughie, Apian Candles presents our first custom Chakoro, Shibui. In Japan, Shibui and its derivatives refer to an aesthetic sense of simple, subtle and unobtrusive beauty.
The practice of roasting green tea in a Chakoro has been gaining popularity in Japan since the late 1990s and in more recent times around the globe. There are many reasons for this modern practice from relaxation, to the fresh scent of roasting green tea that transitions to a slightly nutty and then woody fragrance during the course of the roasting process - ultimately having deodorising properties.
This locally designed and hand crafted Chakoro - Shibui includes the Chakoro unit, tea light candle cup & ceramic stirrer for moving the tea leaves.
Also includes instruction card on how to use and care for the Chakoro.
