Chakoro Shibui (渋い) - Relaxation Gift Pack

Working with renown local ceramicist Kim Haughie, Apian Candles presents our first custom Chakoro, Shibui. In Japan, Shibui and its derivatives refer to an aesthetic sense of simple, subtle and unobtrusive beauty.

The practice of roasting green tea in a Chakoro has been gaining popularity in Japan since the late 1990s and in more recent times around the globe. There are many reasons for this modern practice from relaxation, to the fresh scent of roasting green tea that transitions to a slightly nutty and then woody fragrance during the course of the roasting process - ultimately having deodorising properties.

This gift pack includes everything to begin your Chakoro journey:

a) Locally designed and hand crafted Chakoro - Shibui (including tea light candle cup & ceramic stirrer for moving the tea leaves);

b) 8 Organic Australian Beeswax Chakoro tea light refills presented in a re-usable calico bag;

c) 30g (approximately 15 uses) bottle of Apian Candles relaxation Chakoro tea incense blend - Japanese stem tea, Lavender Blossom, Lemon Myrtle and Sandalwood. PLEASE NOTE:  the tea incense blend is not for internal consumption;
